UNVEILING THE BENEFITS OF PRANAYAMA
Introduction:
The Benefits of Pranayama:
- Rechaka (exhalation)
- Puraka (inhalation)
- Kumbhaka (breath retention)
However, my curiosity persisted, and I pressed the teacher to delve into the benefits of Pranayama. He commenced his enlightening lecture:
"The breath is a vital process influencing every cell in the body and intricately connected to brain function. With humans breathing approximately 15 times per minute and 21,600 times a day, respiration fuels various bodily activities, from muscular contractions to mental processes. Unfortunately, many people breathe incorrectly, using only a fraction of their lung capacity, resulting in shallow breathing that deprives the body of essential oxygen and prana.
Rhythmic, deep, and slow respiration not only stimulates but is also stimulated by calm and content mental states. Conversely, irregular breathing disrupts brain rhythm, leading to physical and mental obstacles, imbalanced personalities, disordered lifestyles, and ultimately, diseases. The key benefit of Pranayama lies in breaking this negative cycle by taking control of the breath, and reinstating the body and mind's natural, relaxed rhythms. Through Pranayama practice, the energy trapped in neurotic, unconscious mental patterns can be released for use in more creative and joyful daily activities."
