WHY YOGA IS IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS
There
is a growing need for holistic development for students in Indian Schools.
After the Indian Prime Minister’s massive impetus on Yoga throughout the world
and address at the United Nations on June 14, 2015, to celebrate International
Yoga Day on 21st June every year, it is being celebrated
honestly throughout the world and it has also been observed that people
especially from Western Country are getting motivated tremendously to join this
ancient Indian culture. In the Indian context, Yoga is being propagated right
from the school level. In India amidst the rigorous academic
curriculum, there is a rising consensus that incorporating yoga classes in
schools is not just a luxury but a necessity. This ancient practice, with its
roots deeply embedded in Indian culture, offers a score of benefits that extend
beyond physical fitness, making it an invaluable addition to the academic
curriculum.
But
in our Childhood at the schools, we did not get such type of hype throughout
the world. It was only a physical and mental exercise and needed to be better
equipped. Teachers of Yoga classes were not certified like these days but what
we learned in those days is ever remembering. However, in this topic, I am not
going to compare our old days with these modern days.
WHY IT IS A NECESSITY IN SCHOOL?
Inclusion
of yoga classes in schools is not merely an option but a necessity. The
benefits include physical fitness, mental well-being, cultural enrichment, and
enhanced cognitive abilities making yoga an invaluable addition to the
education system. By investing in the physical and mental health of students
through yoga, schools can nurture a generation that is not only academically
proficient but also emotionally resilient, culturally aware, and equipped to
face the challenges of the future with grace and strength.
The
reasons behind the necessity are as follows:
It improves concentration and focus:
Yoga
practices for students improve concentration and focus since it involve
meditation and breathing techniques which help to make a balance in the
organs, muscles, and nerves. It also helps in bringing the different bodily functions
into perfect coordination so that they work for the good of the whole body. This
is crucial for students as it can help in better study habits and learning
outcomes.
Reduces stress and anxiety:
From
the Physical body, yoga moves on to the mental and emotional levels. Many
students suffer from different subject phobias and neurons as a result suffer
from stress and interactions of everyday studies. Yoga practices in the school
level help to cope with stress and anxiety.
Enhances Physical health:
Regular
yoga practice at the school level helps to strengthen the body, improves
flexibility, and boosts immunity which is most important for students who spend
long hours sitting at their desks.
Improves sleep quality:
The
researchers suggest that yoga can increase the production of melatonin, the
hormone responsible for regulating sleep. A higher level of melatonin helps
to improve sleep quality by signaling the body for the time to sleep.
There
are a number of reasons why yoga is important for students.
Conclusion:
Incorporating
yoga into a student's daily routine can thus offer a comprehensive array of
benefits, addressing not just the physical aspects of health but also mental,
emotional, and social well-being. This holistic approach to health can
significantly enhance a student's quality of life and academic performance.
